15 Classics to Watch on Halloween Night

Halloween night is almost upon us! Are you participating in Trick-or-Treating, volunteering at your local community center, or calling it a night in with some favorite classic Halloween flicks?

I was not a kid who loved scary Halloween night movies. Back in my trick-or-treating days, the movies that played were either VHS favorites or whatever network television offered up. My preferences tended to be the less scary options as kid handing out candy. For this year’s Halloween Must Watch Movie Classics, here are my Top 15.

  1. Charlie Brown It’s The Great Pumpkin  (G-rated)
  2. Bugs Bunny Howl-O-Ween (G-rated)
  3. The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo  (G-rated)
  4. Escape to Witch Mountain 1975 (G-rated)
  5. The Wizard of Oz (G-rated)
  6. ET (G-rated)
  7. Star Wars  (PG)
  8. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (R)
  9. Halloween  (R)
  10. The Addams Family  (PG-13)
  11. Edward Scissorhands (PG-13)
  12. Hocus Pocus (PG-13)
  13. Carrie  (R)
  14. Children of the Corn  (R)
  15. Hotel Transylvania (PG)
My husband loves a good Halloween horror flick. I prefer something a little tamer like ET. The Wizard of Oz makes the list because I grew up in Kansas. There isn’t much scarier to a child than a scary witch and flying monkeys!
As the years have gone by, we have added more kid-friendly movies to our list. No longer do we have to even rent a movie. While trick-or-treaters ring the doorbell and we hand out candy, we simply watch any of the great Halloween movie options available. There is nothing like background screams and scary music to get everyone in the Halloween spirit!
What are your plans for Halloween night? Are you a G-rated or horror flick watcher? Tell us what favorite Halloween classic films you love to indulge before and during the spooky Holiday weekend!
