The Quirky Gifts Blog

Today is brought to you by the number 9. Insert Sesame Street Count cackles as you count down the awful, apology-requiring things you did to your sibling. Your nine-year-old brother. The nine times you tattled on your brother during summer vacation. The nine times you stole the last cookie. Despite the fact that you did all these awful things (and more) to your sibling(s), they still love you. And you should tell them how much you love them – But after you apologize first! 9. Tattling. The sibling power struggle makes telling on a sibling to mom one of the top 9 awful things. Sometimes tattling backfired and you both got in trouble but it is one of those awful things that gave you some momentary power. 8. Eating the last cookie. No explanation needed. Apologize for not sharing! 7. Getting more..

I’m Hannah and I write for The Hip Horticulturist blog for online shed retailer Tiger Sheds. I write about all sorts of different topics but one of my favourite things to discuss is how our customers can transform their sheds. Recently we produced a post focusing on how people can reinvent their shed for 2016 and within this post I mentioned a Karma Kiss product, Toadstool table & Stool Set, as a way people can reinvent their décor. I just love this product and I think it would make any garden look like a dream! So after having a good look through the Karma Kiss website we came across so many more products that would make a perfect gift for people who love their garden and nature! Maybe you have a birthday or special occasion coming up for your wife,..

When my husband is working from home or on vacation, he stops shaving for a few days. He has always hated shaving and loves the luxury of a break from the multiple-step process that interrupts his mornings. The ensuing “dot beard” (dubbed so by my daughter) is hailed as scratchy and tickly. He eventually shaves it all off but for a few days, the “beard” reigns. My 13-year-old is on the cusp of that masculine coming-of age ritual: shaving. He has eschewed the more trendy teen grooming products (Axe) and headed towards the old standard (Old Spice). Needless to say, both of the men in my life need a serious grooming product upgrade. What better time than the holiday stocking to slip more natural and great-smelling male grooming products? Men (and boys) today have many natural and innovative grooming products. The..

While Halloween and even All-Hallows Eve are celebrated every year with candy, costumes and a few tricks; there is another fun holiday that takes a more literary turn at celebration. Take a look at 10 Spooktacular Facts about Frankenstein Day and add it into your autumnal fun. Frankenstein Day or Frankenstein Friday is celebrated on the last Friday in October. Every monster deserves a birthday. Frankenstein Friday celebrates the birth of Frankenstein and his diabolical creator. Frankenstein has been a scary figure in movies and books for nearly 200 years. Mary Wollenstonecraft Shelley wrote the book “Frankenstein” at the tender age of only 21. The most famous actor that played Frankenstein was the lurking actor Boris Karloff. Frankenstein Day was created in 1997 by Ron MacCloskey. Lots of spooky stuff comes from MacCloskey’s hometown of Westfield, NJ. Charles Addams, the cartoonist..

Halloween night is almost upon us! Are you participating in Trick-or-Treating, volunteering at your local community center, or calling it a night in with some favorite classic Halloween flicks? I was not a kid who loved scary Halloween night movies. Back in my trick-or-treating days, the movies that played were either VHS favorites or whatever network television offered up. My preferences tended to be the less scary options as kid handing out candy. For this year’s Halloween Must Watch Movie Classics, here are my Top 15. Charlie Brown It’s The Great Pumpkin  (G-rated) Bugs Bunny Howl-O-Ween (G-rated) The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo  (G-rated) Escape to Witch Mountain 1975 (G-rated) The Wizard of Oz (G-rated) ET (G-rated) Star Wars  (PG) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (R) Halloween  (R) The Addams Family  (PG-13) Edward Scissorhands (PG-13) Hocus Pocus (PG-13) Carrie  (R) Children of the..

The mother-in-law. The infamous mother by marriage and not by birth. Often vilified, she has become a bit of an urban legend. KarmaKiss knows how to celebrate mother-in-laws. Gift her with one (or more) of our fun gifts for the mother-in-law who might have everything but is only looking for your heart (not on a silver platter or literally!) Thirteen might be viewed as an unlucky number but when it comes to Trick or Treating on Halloween; these thirteen tips can help kids stay safe. Wear brightly colored or white costumes to stand out in the dark. Apply glow tape, carry a glow stick or wear a glow necklace to costumes to further make kids stand out in the night. Carrying a flashlight is another great way to increase visibility. Use common sense safety rules when trick-or-treating. Cross at crosswalks. Look both ways before crossing streets. Walk on sidewalks if possible. Watch for cars leaving drive-ways as you move from house to house. Parents and teens need to be extra cautious when driving on Halloween. Be alert to the fact that small children that might be as visible are out walking. Watch when pulling out or making turns for..

Who is Confucious? Why does he have the rep of being a genius? Probably because he was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history. There are many variations of books idolizing Confucious, whether it be a biography or a book of quotes that simply just ring the right inspiring tunes to your ears. Today is Confucious Day and we at Karmakiss would like to honor the beliefs and virtues of Confucious that we still live by today. Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps. It is easy to hate and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things..

On September 22, you can show your love for pachyderms on Elephant Appreciation Day! More than just animals you see at the zoo or circus, elephants are fascinating creatures that prove they’re special and worth a day of appreciation. Here are nine fun facts about elephants and why they make the world a better place.   African elephants are the largest land mammals on Earth. Compared to Asian elephants, they’re slightly larger. Want to tell the difference? African elephants have larger ears, while Asian ones have smaller, rounded ears. Elephant trunks are actually long noses. An elephant uses its trunk to breathe, smell, drink, and trumpet, as well as grab food. One elephant trunk has around 100,000 different muscles! Elephants, like humans, show a range of emotional intelligence. Grief is just one of the emotions elephants express. They’ve also been..
